2015 Grand Marshall

We are please to have Claudia  H. Byrd joining us this year as our 2015 Grand Marshall! Mrs. Byrd serves as executive director of the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) entity that provides funding for children’s-based nonprofit organizations in 18- counties surrounding Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway.
In her leadership role, a position she has held since the chapter was founded in 1997, Claudia oversees the organization’s annual grant application process and works closely with the local board of trustees to coordinate numerous fundraising events.
All proceeds raised from the Bristol Chapter’s activities are distributed to local child-based organizations to address a variety of child-related issues. In 2014, the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities awarded a record-breaking $749,000 to regional children’s charities, bringing their 17-year total to nearly $9 million in grants awarded locally.

Kryss Dula and Friends will be performing for us as we gather after our walk. We are excited to have this local group join us and be a part of our community.

About the Buddy Walk

Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.  The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to nearly 300 walks planned for 2012 worldwide.  In 2011, more than $10 million was raised nationwide to benefit local programs and services, as well as national advocacy initiatives of NDSS that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
